Colonic irrigations are most beneficial when used in conjunction with dietary cleanse or juice fast, both of which assist your body in "cleaning house". Therefore, best results are seen when clients are self-motivated and able to take responsibility for their health, rather than depending on the system, doctors or other health care professionals to "fix them".
To reach new levels of health awareness and clarity of mind, one's body must be cleared of putrefactive waste in the intestine and toxins in the cells of the blood. Colonic irrigations are an important part of this process. A series of 12 to 20 sessions are suggested for those who have not done this yet, unless they are depleted, weak or pregnant.
We also have deeper programs for detoxification that involve herbs, minerals, supplements and fasting, which are laid out in two or four week programs. But, the following is a general outline for the recommended steps in preparing for your colonic.
DIET: A day or two before you are having a colonic, the more fresh and raw food that you eat the better your results will be. Cutting out dairy products, animal protein, seafood, coffee, alcohol, salt, sugar, and gluten or mucus-forming foods such as wheat, pasta or bread products will benefit your experience.
Brown rice and millet, baked yams or squash, bean salad or soups, soaked raw unsalted nuts and seeds are recommended. This vegan diet is nourishing yet cleansing for all people. However if you normally eat a lot of protein, you may want to ease yourself slowly into this vegan diet and eat some ocean fish or free range eggs 2-3 times per week.
Unpasturized (raw) fruit and vegetable juices help the intestine detoxify as well as green leafy vegetables and chlorophyll-rich foods such as algae, alfalfa, broccoli, kale and of course, raw organic salads. A word about organic- support sustainable agriculture and cherish your body by eating only certified organic foods. Pesticides are toxic and toxicity is what we want out of your body!
Psyllium husk powder or flax seed powder will help to soften debris in the colon if taken a day or two before a colonic. Take 1-2 teaspoons of psyllium with 8 oz of water, 2 oz of apple juice, shake or blend and drink immediately. Follow by 8 oz water. (The extra water is important.) Decrease the ratio of fiber to water if bloating occurs. Aloe Vera can also be added to help soothe an irritated colon (it's also a natural laxative).
Eat lightly or nothing in the 2 hours before a colonic. Food steals energy from the intestine. If you must eat, have fruit or drink vegetable broth, water or herb tea. At this stage, these foods will build up your alkaline mineral reserves which will help buffer the acids and toxins, helping your body to more safely detoxify.
This is optional but beneficial: The night before your colonic do a 1 hour castor oil pack - the external application of penetrating oil on the abdomen. (Directions available by request or look up Edgar Cayce in the library). Wheatgrass juice rectal implants are also highly beneficial.
After a colonic you could feel light and energetic or chilled and a little light-headed. It is always best to rest for ½ an hour after a colonic regardless. We will provide an alkalizing beverage. Some clients feel fatigued and need to relax for the rest of the day, other can go beck to normal activities. It is best not to have social arrangements later that may tempt you to overeat or drink alcohol.
A colonic can sometimes trigger several bowel movements a few hours later or may also stop bowel movements for a day or two if the colon lacks proper tone. Either is quite normal with colon cleansing. It is beneficial to pre-book two or three colonics per week in the first phase of cleansing to support the elimination until the old plaque and toxins are removed. Then, weekly and finally, monthly maintenance colonics or bi-yearly series of four will keep things in good shape. Remember that diet, exercise, relaxation practices and adequate water intake are all important to healthy bowel function.
Eating immediately after a colonic is not recommended but when necessary eat lightly, eat slowly and chew well. Your next meal should be vegetable based meal like soup, salad or steamed veggies and grains. Taking a multi-enzyme with meals will greatly help digestion and ease gas that sometimes occurs with higher fiber intake.
Gas may also be caused by imbalanced PH in the colon. Replenishing the healthy intestinal flora with an acidophilus supplement after each colonic will help to restore the proper PH. Take two capsules before bed on an empty stomach or ½ hour after meals. Continue taking it throughout the colonics series or until the bottle is finished.
Your first colonic can be a pleasant experience, keep in mind to relax the belly and breathe deeply throughout. A positive mental attitude contributes greatly to a successful colonic!
